Volunteer Opportunities

Message from The Villages Auxiliary President

When The Villages Regional Hospital opened in 2002, 300 volunteers appeared on the doorstep. Their numbers have been growing ever since. We now have over 400 volunteers serving 23 departments. They work in emergency, patient care, front desk, surgery waiting room, ICU, imaging transport, outpatient surgery desk, PACU, VACU, outside transport, pharmacy, dietary, gift shop and many other areas.

We have a committee for special events, which works to raise funds for a “wish List.” This includes many things that would improve services for the patients and make the staff’s job lighter. All money raised is given back to the hospital for these various items. We recently purchased a diamond knife for cataract surgery, tubex for the pharmacy, and orthopedic recliners for the patient rooms. We have given five scholarships to hospital staff members for further education. We also gave our chaplain a beautiful stained glass window to enhance our chapel.

Our many volunteers are a blessing to us and fill many of the hospital’s needs, which make a patient more comfortable during his or her stay. Their presence brightens the already beautiful environment we have, and hopefully eases the pressure on the dedicated staff that work so hard to bring comfort to everyone. For further information on how to volunteer, please call (352) 751-8622.
